Who we are
The Global Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development, Inc., or GIESD, was established in 2003 as a private and non-profitable corporation through qualification review by the U.S. Federal Government and passed the reassessment after the first five-year commissioning operation under section 501 (c) of the Internal Revenue Code since. Founded by three scholars from Yale University of the U.S. and Tsinghua University of China, it is dedicated to research and development in the field of interdisciplinary ecosystem studies, human and urban ecosystem harmony, and environment for sustainable development. The headquarters of GIESD is based on the campus of Yale University at New Haven, Connecticut, the United States. Thus it has been closely affiliated with the Yale community, while separately incorporated and administered as NGO and receives no financial support from Yale University but funds from public for supporting projects even though its research and development closely involving Yale faculty, alumni, students and friends with their in-kind contributions. What we do GIESD is dedicated to initiate researches and trainings of environment for sustainability, bridging regions and areas worldwide especially the United States and China. It is also involved in the interdisciplinary ecosystem and education practices (EEP) in and about China for executive leaders, professionals and students.
